Our Musical Director

Laura King is our Musical Director, she is an accomplished musician who started her musical career as a woodwind player, specialising on the clarinet. She frequently plays in ensembles and shows around the South of England. Laura studied music at university gaining a BA(hons) in Music with Instrumental and Vocal Teaching and a MA in Music Performance.

Laura started conducting Worthing Silver Band in 2008. She loves working with the band and has been thrilled to perform with them ever since, even learning a few brass instruments so she can join in the carols at  Christmas! She enjoys choosing a wide selection of music to suit every taste and looks forward to continuing this for a long time.

In 2012 Laura had a rather ambitious idea to run a brass band concert for 12 hours in aid of charity. Her idea came to fruition in October of that year and Worthing Silver Band welcomed eight bands to play from around the south at BRASSBANDATHON. The event now happens yearly and thousands of pounds have been raised for Children in Need.  We have even featured on BBC South Today and taken part in Children in Need several times.
