Meet our two job share Musical Directors

Mel 

Mel is an experienced conductor who has attended conducting courses and previous led the band for 15 years before having a break to bring up her children. She began playing in brass bands at the tender age of 13 on the Isle of Wight including playing for the Isle of Wight Youth Concert Band and Ryde Concert band. She moved over to Sussex to join the police force and joined Worthing Silver Band in the late 1980s and has been a member of the band ever since. Mel has also played for orchestras but her real love is brass bands and she can also be found playing trombone for the Lancing Brass of the Royal British Legion.

Georgie

Georgina started learning how to play a brass instrument with 6th Hove Scouts Marching Band when she was 15, over a 6-year period she played Euphonium, Baritone and Contrabass. Whilst at university studying for her Music and Teaching Bachelor’s degree, she moved over to the brass band world by joining Brighton Silver Band where she played for over 10 years.

Georgina got her Master’s degree in music composition from Chichester University in 2006. She now enjoys arranging music for brass band through the Hal Leonard group. Georgina continues playing in the Baritone section when she is not conducting and can also be found playing for Mid Sussex Brass.
